For the first time in history, women in some privileged parts of our planet are being regarded as full capable human beings, with the same rights and prerrogatives as men. This has not been and, unfortunately, is not the daily experience of many women in our world today. We are going to review some courageous women who, in spite of many obstacles and social barriers imposed by the society they have lived or are living in, have been able to contribute greatly to the advancement not only of women, but of the whole society.
